My own battle with an eating disorder and exercise addiction has lasted for 15 years, and has been very challenging, both physically and emotionally. Often I have nearly given up, but deep inside me was the strength to carry on and overcome the problems. Writing this book has helped me, and I really hope it will help others, either those who have similar problems, or those who are near and dear to them.
At least 1.1 million people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder, most being in the 14 to 25 age group, with girls and women at least 10 times more likely to be affected than boys and men. All sorts of people are affected in all sorts of ways, and my own illness does not fit into any particular category. My hope is that, after reading this, others will look for ways of finding help, and seeking professional guidance. It will not be easy, but I have survived, and so can you or your friend or relative, given the vital help and support.
